BRAZIL: Francisco, el Hombre

Francisco, el Hombre, a self-described “pachanga folk” rock band was formed in 2013 by Mexican-born Brazilian brothers Sebastián and Mateo Piracés-Ugarte in the city of Campinas, later bringing in vocalist Juliana Strassacapa.

Their initial Latin American tours were self-financed, crowd funded, improvised and often started with very few shows previously scheduled. They would always find opportunities to play in streets, squares, hostels, bars and birthday parties. A truly grassroots band, absolutely beloved by their fans, they often sing about difficult and real life topics.

I had the pleasure of seeing Francisco, el Hombre live in Brazil and WOW do they put on a show! So energetic, fun, creative, tons of audience participation and goofy wackiness. They balance it with strong messages about important topics like violence towards women and cultural identities. A truly versatile band with a unique vibe and creative sound.
