I would like to start by saying that I don’t know what it is about the island nation of Cape Verde, miles off the coast of western Africa, but those islands produce the most incredible musicians. Cape Verde has a rich history and culture of music, and exploring Cape Verdean music is a journey unto itself.
Elida Almeida was born on the island of Santiago in Cape Verde, and got her musical start singing in church.
Eventually, she began singing at bars and small concerts while writing her first album.
Elida has since released three albums and created a stunning career, touring worldwide and always growing in her musical expression.
