Normally I only share artists from countries other than the USA, because US music is exported enough. But I’m making an exception for the absolute phenomenal San Francisco underground badass brilliance that is La Doña because I need you all to know her and her music right now.
Cecilia Cassandra Peña-Govea, a.k.a. La Doña, sings, plays trumpet, writes music, and makes amazing art to boot. She blends traditional Mexican musical elements with reggaeton, caribbean sounds, and hip hop influences.
I lived in the Mission district of San Francisco way back in the early aughts, and I love how La Doña’s music transports me right back.
