I’ve stumbled on to the genre of avante-pop.
Weird, off-beat— yet pop? It’s the genre of my dreams and I didn’t even know it existed.
Today we are looking at avante-pop singer Ekaterina Shilonosova, aka Kate NV, from Russia. She is the front(wo)man of Russian punk garage band Glintshake but I have really fallen in love with her recent solo work.
One part experimental pop, one part performance art, with a dash of Kate Bush, Kate NV has put out some really unique music and videos.
She has a futuristic sort of musical sound that comes through a retro lens at the same time— and that combination is what I love so much about Kate NV’s music.
