BRAZIL: Priscila Tossan

Some of you guys know I’ve spent a lot of time in Rio de Janeiro and other parts of Brazil over the last three years. In January, I sold all my belongings and finally moved there. Me and my dog Goober traveled to Rio together to set up our new home. I had a nice apartment in Copacabana, and I was just settling in when the pandemic hit. By April, I had to return to the US. It was fairly heartbreaking.

But my love affair with Brazilian culture carries on from my home in Florida, as I take my portuguese lessons online, and constantly gather more and more brazilian music in my archives.

Today’s featured artist was somewhat of a surprise to me, as I have listened to her music for a few years without realizing it…..only to discover in the last year she has shot into stardom after nearly winning Brazil’s The Voice singing competition.

Priscila Tossan has *the* coolest voice– smokey, jazzy, restrained yet powerful…..like I just want to wrap myself in her cool, smooth vocals. Priscilla manages to take her jazz club sounding voice and make it totally modern.

Priscila is from Campo Grande, just west of Rio de Janeiro. I watched her new video for “Cine Odeon” and got to travel through so many places I know in Rio while listening to her beautiful voice in a way that deeply soothed my soul.
